Pura Vida is a recruitment program for Be The Match looking to provide outreach, education, and registration of potential matches in the Latino communities within Southern California in order to increase the Latino registrant percentage in the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP)/ National Bone Marrow Registry.
There are 58.9 million Latinos living in the United States but these millions of people make up only 7% of the National Bone Marrow Registry with mixed ethnicities making up only 3%.
Therefore, Pura Vida’s vision is to save lives by increasing the registry of potential matches within the Latino community.
Outreach is a main part of what we do. Building and sustaining partnerships with local businesses, government programs, non-profits, and faith-based organizations within the Latino communities will help us reach our goal of increasing the Latino registrant percentage.
We are asking YOU to consider registering to be a potential life saving match for someone in need of a transplant. Registering does not instantly make you a donor. However, if chosen as a donor, we are hoping you say yes to donating. Being a donor involves either donating bone marrow or stem cells to a patient in need of a transplant. All patient’s needs vary which means either donation process may be asked of you. You have every right to decline the donation. Donating is free. You can save a life by donating when being called after registering.
